Who is he?
This guy’s name is Ahmed Gabr and he is an Egyptian scuba diver. He holds the world record for the deepest anyone has ever dived.
How long did it take?
He began training in 2010, and planned to dive in 2012. Unfortunately, he was unable to attempt the dive until 2014 due to political unrest in Egypt. Two years is still a long time to train, let alone four. Despite the wait, he successfully broke the record for the deepest dive in 2014.
How far did he go?
The reason he stopped at the depth that he did was to not lose control of his limbs due to high pressure nervous syndrome or HPNS, which happens to divers who go below 500 feet. In total, he decended to 1,091 feet below the surface.
