“I know this, you have to do the thing that makes you tick, you have to do it on a daily basis, you have to do it unapologetically, do it with love.”
A couple of months ago I moved to Thailand and began one of my greatest adventures to date. It was never supposed to be long term, in fact, it started out as nothing more than a vacation, yet it turned into something so much more amazing. What was originally planned to be a 3 week trip quickly evolved into a 3 month journey. For the first time in my life, I was not only far from home, but I was on my own. I became responsible for every part of my life. Where I’d live, what I’d eat, how I’d make a living. It was a lot to handle, but it also excited me and drove me forward to each new day.
Fairly quickly, I decided to started to start my own English school in a smaller, lesser known part of the country. It was work, It was stress, It was a constant grind, and it was worth it. But I do not write this blog entry today to tell my story, but rather, to share some valuable lessons I learned while on this adventure. While I was pursing my new dream I would constantly get comments from friends or family back home about how cool it was that I was doing this, and how they wished they could do it.
The thing is, you can. if you have a dream, you have a responsibility to make that dream a reality. If something makes you tick, find a way to do it more often. I know it sounds hard, and no one is saying that it isn’t. I’m not promising that it will be easy, only that it will be worth it. It is better to have reached for a dream and failed than to never have reached at all. The lesson that can be learned from simply trying to reach for something more are invaluable.
Today is forward Friday, the weekend is here and for many of us, it’s the first time of the week that we can start thinking a little more about what we want. My challenge for you, is that what ever you circumstance, identify a dream, set some goals, and go achieve. Posted below is a fantastic video that shares a story of one man and his journey towards what he desires most.
