The Gunsight Trail is one of two trails that climb to the summit of the Red Mountain in Ivins, Utah. The gunsight trail is on the east side of the mountain and leads to a square rock formation at the top that resembles a large gunsight. The day we hiked on this trail we chose to not climb the mountain but rather to follow a different part of the trail that continues up the wash into the canyon. The trail is accompanied by many large boulders and rock formations. One large boulder lies over the trail in the riverbed and creates a fairly large shaded area. The hike is not very long and can be accessed from various places in Ivins. Also, we found the biggest desert tortoise we had ever seen!
